Aims and Objectives
The aim of this course is to give students practice in preparing and presenting Landeskunde topics in the English classroom from Year Five to Leistungskurs, with particular emphasis on the internet as a resource.
The course will focus on putting the theory of the Berlin Curriculum (Rahmenlehrplan) into practice, as well as analysing good and bad teaching practice in the classroom.
Topics which we will examine will include a detailed analysis of online teachers' portals, webquests, and establishing partner schools around the world.
By the end of the semester, students should have gathered a wide range of resources and approaches which they can then take with them into the "real" classroom.
Many of the class sessions will be based around student presentations, mock lessons and peer analysis.
Learning Outcomes
During the module, students will learn:
- to develop their research skills, with particular emphasis on internet research
- to express themselves with clarity and precision in English
- to pitch their Landeskunde lessons to the right age group
- to develop critical skills towards their own lesson planning
- to reflect analytically on their own teaching strengths and weaknesses
- to listen and assess lessons presented by their peers

Module requirements Students are expected to attend class on a regular basis and to contribute actively to all workshop discussions. Students will be required to give presentations on teaching resources (electronic and other), as well as to structure and present a detailed lesson plan on a Landeskunde topic.

Language requirements The course will be held in English. Students must have an active command of sophisticated, near native-speaker language skills (C1 / C2). Kompetente Sprachverwendung(hohes Sprachniveau bis fast muttersprachliche Sprachkompetenz) (C1 / C2).
