Exhibition as Choreography / Choreography as Exhibition Lately more and more visual art institutions are interested in exposing and presenting works from choreographers in exhibitions. Artists involved in the field of choreography or artists using the means of live actions, develop works for exhibitions or exhibit existing works to answer these proposals. What can these proposals do to and for choreography, the medium of exhibition, contemporary art, spectatorial gaze, social and public space….? Can these proposals become modes of production? Do these productions become new formats? As an answer to the invitation to create an exhibition, « Retrospective » by Xavier Le Roy has proposed to recast material from choreographies (made for the theatre) in situations with live actions where the apparatuses of the theatre performance and the museum exhibition have intersected. This work explored retrospective, and Le Roy’s solo works as contents and subjects. More widely it inquired the possibilities of coexistence of different times and durations. Beside these interest the exhibition has given form to a mode of presentation or choreography. Is choreography or its structure specific to its content? Can it become a generic form of exhibition of live actions? Can it be the support or form to exhibit other contents and subjects than the one it had been made for? The workshop and its presentation will explore possibilities to use the choreography of « Retrospective » by Xavier le Roy as a form for other topics or subjects to create an exhibition.
