SoSe 15: Science, Technology and development

Science and technology (S&T) play a key role in the process of development. The lack of appropriate understanding of that role, and policy consideration for it, is a key factor in explaining failures of countries` efforts of development. There are currently several historical conditions favoring the re-emergence of theories and policies of development, and sustainable development is prone to become the new paradigm guiding such an emergence. Moreover, S&T is particularly vital for sustainable development. The time has come for a serious effort to improve our understanding of the development process and of the role science and technology play in it. This course is an invitation to revisit the major theories and policies that could combine the economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainable development. close
