SoSe 15: The Empire Strikes Back? The state and international market regulation
Nikolas Kessels
Comments
In recent years, the relationship between markets and states has been a contentious one. The economic period leading up to the 2008 financial crisis had been particularly prosperous for the United States; and on both sides of the Atlantic it seemed that free markets were indicative for their liberal societies and the prosperity on which they thrived. Of course, after the crisis a good many of regulations were re-evaluated. With global network banks on the defense and investment banking quite a bit duller than eight years ago, there is reason for “team state” to be optimistic. But still, with discussions about Greek austerity measures alive and kicking, the fundamental debate about the relationship between state and market deserves to be recognized and re-visited. close
