SoSe 17: The German Empire and the World
Ulrike Schaper
Kommentar
German colonial rule only lasted about 30 years. However, from the 1990s onwards scholars have (re-)claimed its importance for understanding German history and addressing it in transnational/global history perspectives.
In our class we will 1. look into particular constellations and specificities of German colonialism, 2. place German colonialism within European Imperialism and relate it to broader debates in colonial history 3. pay attention to inter-imperial co-operations, transfers and global frameworks that influenced the German colonial endeavor. Geographically we will focus on German colonialism in Africa. Schließen
