SoSe 17: GK-Medieval English Literatures I: The Multitemporalities of Medieval English Literature

Regina Scheibe

Comments

Time is one of the oldest philosophical subjects in art. What was medieval man’s perception of time? Did he divide the past into periods, and in what way is his understanding of time reflected in his literary works? This series of lectures will introduce you to medieval aspects of temporality as we find them in medieval English historiographical writings, epic narratives and romances, instructional and devotional literature, and humorous fiction.

Language of instruction: English. Required language level: C1-C2.

A reader of the relevant primary texts will be made available to students at the beginning of the semester.
