SoSe 17: V-Literatures of Medieval Britain I: Visionary Landscape

This series of lectures will take you on a mental journey through the literary landscapes of medieval English poetry. We will travel through the wilderness and cultured nature of the medieval world and the landscapes of the afterlife, spaces depicted in such well-known works as Beowulf, The Kingis Quair and Pearl. By doing so, we will explore the ecocentric and anthropocentric aspects of the poems and their relation to the medieval concepts of dream vision and allegory.
Texts will be provided at the beginning of the semester.
Language of instruction: English; level C1 is required.
