Hinweise für Studierende

In the summer semester, this course will be taught in a digital format. The basic medium is Blackboard. Readings as pdf files and links to relevant data and materials will be made available in Blackboard. Specific research tasks related to this material will be given on a regular basis. You must provide written responses and submit them via email. Your texts will be corrected and graded. In sum, the digital version of this course requires independent reading and a significant amount of writing (in English). Other formats may be explored (class discussions, chats, blogs etc.) if possible and desired. Writing requirements will include formats that are important in modern academia. The course will begin on April 21, when you will be asked to provide information about your research interests and expectations regarding this course and will have opportunity to ask questions, via email. First readings and tasks will be distributed and made available on Blackboard on April 28. Schließen

Zusätzl. Angaben / Voraussetzungen

Please note: The Archaeological Colloquium (Monday 6-8 pm), which is commonly combined with this seminar to form one Hermeneutic module, cannot be offered in the summer. Conferences and colloquia with guest speakers cannot take place in the summer. You can attend this colloquium in the winter semester, or replace the colloquium with another type of course (Seminar, Vorlesung, Übung etc. – the grade would not count, since the colloquium is not separately graded). Kommentar

English matters – not only in daily life (from entertainment to business), but also in academic life. International conferences are mostly held in English. Scholars of many non-Anglophone countries publish increasingly or even exclusively in English (e.g. Albania, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey). Many international students and visiting scholars come to Berlin who do not speak German fluently or at all. Good knowledge of English has become indispensable, not only for reading scholarly literature, but also for oral communication and academic publishing. In order to better prepare students for their future careers, this seminar will be held exclusively in English. It is meant for all students, level of English notwithstanding. If your English is not yet perfect, do not stay away – on the contrary, come and improve your academic English skills. The journal club is a format commonly used in the natural sciences. Scholars meet regularly and critically evaluate recent, particularly innovative and important publications in academic literature. We will discuss recent publications to gain an overview of current discourses, approaches, and methods in the field. Schließen
