WiSe 12/13: Politics and Policy of Multiculturalism in Canada

Canada was the first state who implemented an official policy of multiculturalism to cope with problems of ethnic identity, cultural diversity and political nationalism in Canada. This course will take a closer look at the content and dimensions of this policy and we will analyze the broader context of diversity in Canada (in a historial perspective), namly its political, social and economic foundations and consequences. Thereby major elements of the political system as well as Canadian history will be touched. Mayor topics will include: First Nations, Quebec Nationalism, and Western Alienation.
