In this course we will read landmark selections from the Arabic literary tradition: scripture poetry and prose. The principle interest of the readings will be to get a better understanding of the themes of polysemy, equivocation and vagueness in Arabic literature and their relationship to the issue of ambiguity and indeterminability of meaning in Arabic culture. The course will be taught in German and English. close
