Comments

The course provides an introduction to statistical concepts and methods used in social science. It is aimed to provide you insights about how quantitative data should be organized and how these data can then be utilized for information. This is an applied course where the main focus will be on (1) the application of multivariate techniques with non-continuous outcomes (probit, logit, regressions for count data etc.) to answer empirical questions and (2) the interpretation of quantitative evidence. The course will also repeat basic concepts of univariate and bivariate statistics. Before we start with non-continuous outcomes linear regression model will be used as starting point. Furthermore, the course will also provide you with an introduction to program package "Stata", which become widely used by social science researchers. Classes will be organized as follows. In first half of a session (=45 minutes) I will provide you with an introduction to the underlying statistical theory behind each statistical method and demonstrate several examples of how to apply such statistical techniques. In the second half of a session (=45minutes) you will apply these techniques in laboratory sessions. close
