Statistische Indikatoren sind ein Teil moderner Politik. Sie sollen nicht nur Erfolge der Politik transparent quantifizieren, sondern gleichzeitig Problemfelder notwendigen politischen Handelns identifizieren und Zielgrößen definieren. Wie man an den Sustainable Development Goals der Vereinten Nationen sehen kann, hat die Bedeutung statistischer Indikatoren für die Politik in letzter Zeit sogar noch zugenommen. Die Lösung der „Grand Societal Challenges“ der Zukunft ist unweigerlich mit Indikatoren verbunden – sie sollen die Erreichung von Wohlfahrt, Fortschritt und Nachhaltigkeit ermöglichen. Und obwohl die Forschung in den Sozialwissenschaften immer quantitativer wird und auf Datensätze und Indikatoren zurückgreift, ist die Rolle, die Indikatoren in der Politik spielen - die politische Ökonomie der Statistik - so gut wie nie Gegenstand sozialwissenschaftlicher Analyse. In diesem Projektkurs soll zum einen die Rolle von statistischen Indikatoren in der Politik untersucht werden. Zum anderen sollen die Teilnehmer und Teilnehmerinnen des Kurses auch selbst aktiv werden. Kursziel ist die Erstellung eines Vorschlags für einen alternativen Wohlfahrtsindikator für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland (in Analogie zu den internationalen Initiativen zur alternativen Wohlfahrtsmessung). Dabei soll in Form einer Hausarbeit (auch als Gruppenarbeit) ein Policy-Paper entworfen werden, das den jeweils speziell kalibrierten Indikator nicht nur vorstellt und theoretisch kontextualisiert, sondern auch dessen methodischen und inhaltlichen Aufbau ableitet. close
