Comments

This course deals with the structure and evolution of the Alpine mountain chains that surround the Mediterranean Sea: the Alps, Apennines, Dinarides, Hellenides and Pyrennes, as well as the Maghrebides. The goal is to understand the processes, both deep-seated and at the surface, that lead to the development of such arcuate mountain belts along the borders of small, mobile tectonic plates. The course comprises lectures and practicals; the latter focus on the construction of lithosphere-scale cross sections that integrate modern structural, thermochronological and seismological data. close
