WiSe 16/17: New Media and Politics in the Post-Soviet World

Florian Töpfl, Anna Litvinenko, Andrei Zavadski

Comments

The seminar provides an overview of research on how the rise of new internet-based information and communication technologies has effected Post-Soviet countries, with focus on hybrid and authoritarian regimes. Participants will be introduced to a number of widely influential theories on the impact of technology on politics in general and on the public sphere in particular. Another focus of the seminar is the presentation and discussion of high-profile academic studies on how, and with what political consequences, key actors in post-communist states (political elites, civil society, and journalists) have adopted the new technology. close
