SoSe 13: S-Colonial and Postcolonial Literatures II: Australian Speculative Fiction
Andrew John Milner
Kommentar
This course will introduce students to contemporary discussion and debate about speculative fiction in Australian literature and film. It will examine: i) various theoretical approaches to the analysis of speculative fiction; ii) the historical development of speculative fiction through fantasy, utopia, dystopia and science fiction; iii) the debates over the social role of speculative fiction, whether as a source for the stabilisation or for the subversion of social norms; iv) a number of key Australian speculative fictions, drawn from the novel, short story and film. The general framework will be comparative and historical and will refer to both Australian and non-Australian texts. The approach will be from a cultural studies perspective, which will seek to problematise conventional binary oppositions between high and low culture, literature and fiction. Schließen
