SoSe 13: Levels of Linguistics Analysis II: Theory and Gram. of English
Maren Schiefke
Kommentar
Although English and German are closely related, interesting differences between the two languages can be discovered at all linguistic levels. This course will introduce students to contrastive analysis – the systematic study of a pair of languages in order to identify structural differences and similarities.
First, an overview and basic knowledge of contrastive linguistics will be provided by dealing with history, objectives, purpose, and methods of contrastive analysis. Then English and German will be examined at various linguistic levels. We will be detecting and discussing phonological, morphological, lexical, syntactic, and semantic differences and similarities between the two languages.
Students participating in this course are expected to attend regularly, give an oral presentation in class as well as submit a term paper at the end of the term. Schließen
