SoSe 13: Oil and Gas Security in Europe
David Ramin Jalilvand; Joshua Posaner
Comments
Energy security in Europe is increasingly incorporating a set of complex theories and ideas like supply diversification, transit risk and autarky. This course will seek to explain and analyse the development of energy security in Europe, with specific reference to the supply and consumption of oil and natural gas. Charting from the 1973 oil crisis the seminar will develop to include more recent market events like the so-called Russia-Ukraine 'gas wars' of 2006 and 2009, the increasing role of the EU as a policy actor and the emergence of potential new players from the Caspian region. Students will be encouraged to participate through weekly presentations, and will be given the opportunity to see Europe within the framework of a globalising energy system. close
