SoSe 13: (GEND) Policy Analysis: Environment, Climate, Energy and Development in India
Kirsten Jörgensen-Ullmann
Comments
As an emerging world power, India is becoming an important actor in areas such as climate protection and environmental policy. India's environmental and climate policy is unfolding against the background of both a development-first paradigm as well as the threatening scenario of climate change impacting many economic sectors and hampering human livelihoods. This often involves gender equality and women's empowerment, issues which shall be addressed in the seminar
The purpose of this seminar is to study environmental policy and the emerging climate governance in India and to explore problems, policy approaches, actor constellations and institutional structures. We will discuss the potentials and constraints of political decision-making and implementation in India's multi-level system. Our main field of interest will be the cross-sectional problem of climate change and the policy areas related to it inter alia energy policy, industrial policy and development.
