Seminar
SoSe 13: Comparative Analysis of Education and Labour Market
Christian Brzinsky-Fay
Comments
Transitions on labour markets and within the educational system become increasingly diverse, which - from a life-course perspective - is theoretically captured as "de-standardisation". Additionally, researchers observe the extension of the transition period to adulthood, whereas country differences of transition pathways remain remarkably stable (cp. Buchmann and Kriesi, 2011). Both developments constitute a serious challenge for the analysis of individual transitions.
The seminar deals with different methodological approaches for the comparative analysis of transitions, while covering related theoretical approaches, at the same time. Participants should become able to conduct their own empirical analyses regarding transitions within the education system or labour market as well as between them. Practical exercises will be part of the seminar. Therefore, participants should have basic knowledge in quantitative data analysis and in the use of the software package Stata.
