José Javier Cercas Mena
Comments
The course will deal with the literary work of the Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges. The focus will be mainly on his narrative work, but we will also read some of his essays. We will be putting Jorge Luis Borges' work into the context of the 20th century literature. The first classes will consist of a brief overview of Borges' life and work. We will then discuss two of his major books of short stories: Ficciones (1944) and El Aleph (1949). If we have enough time, we will discuss some of the essays included in Otras inquisiciones (1952). The students will be required to prepare some of his texts and comment on them in class. The course will be held in Spanish.
(The course will not be held on the 24th of April, the date will be repeated)
