Regina Scheibe
Kommentar
As the editors of Writing War: Medieval Literary Responses to Warfare (2004) have already noted, "[w]ar is a powerful and enduring literary topos, a repeated theme in both secular and religious literary genres of the middle ages". In our seminar we will restrict ourselves to an examination of the effects of warfare in the secular genre of medieval romance, paying particular attention to concepts of gender and the human psyche.

Language of instruction: English. Required language level: C1-C2.
Procedure and assessment: Each week passages will be earmarked for study at home and discussion in class. The final mark will be based on participation in class, a presentation and a 4000-word final essay.
