This lecture traces the historical development of East Asian regional economic integration since the early 1990s, and analyzes the background of its acceleration in recent years. It then makes an assessment of the current status of East Asian regional economic integration, based on the analysis of its major components (trade and investment agreements, and financial/monetary cooperation arrangements). Finally, it analyzes the future direction of East Asian regional economic integration, focusing on the strategies of the major countries in the region, including Japan, China, Korea, ASEAN and India. close
