SoSe 14: V-Colonial and Postcolonial Literatures I: Postcolonial Europe
Cordula Lemke
Comments
Postcolonial theory addresses problems which are of growing importance in our globalised world. It has adopted such terms as hybridity and mimicry from other disciplines and forged them into concepts which are now in turn proving to be of increasing relevance to other contexts. Starting from Edward Said's seminal text Orientalism, we will follow the trajectories of Postcolonial Studies from the 1980s until today and look at the ways in which aspects of decentring and contesting power structures bear upon contemporary Europe.
