SoSe 14: (GEND) Gender in the European Union
Andrea Ribeiro Hoffmann
Comments
The course explores how gender has been incorporated in the European Union. It consists in four parts. The first part discusses the main theories and analytical approaches of gender studies. The second part provides a contextual background of the process of institutionalization of gender norms at the international level, mainly in the UN system. The third part analyses the actors and institutions dealing with gender in the European Union. The analysis will cover the development over time and the current situation, and explore the driving forces of the process of institutionalization and diffusion of gender norms in the EU. The focus is on the EU level, but case studies about member-states will be covered. The course will also discuss the role of the feminist groups, gender civil society actors and social movements in Europe. close
