The course is an additional class in the Master's program 'Sociology - European Societies" and as such it is not listed on Campus Management. If you are a student of the said Master's or the course is listed in a module of your study program, simply come to the first session. In other cases write an e-mail to the instructor. close
Comments
This course aims on repetition and advancing the knowledge and usage of methodological principles of quantitative data analysis. This includes:
- descriptive analysis,
- statistical inference,
- choosing the right procedure for specific research questions,
- choosing the right procedure for the data type,
- statistical analysis.
Beside this seminar has the objective to provide a practical introduction to the application of the software package SPSS. At the end of the seminar, students should be able to self-reliantly conduct basic reproducible statistical analyses. The topics taught in this course include:
- data management (dataset and variable modification, index building),
- calculating univariate distributions,
- running univariate, bivariate and multivariate statistical analyses,
- constructing graphs,
- output interpretation, and
- results reporting.
Basic knowledge in data analysis is strongly recommended.
