SoSe 14: BRICS and the global order

The course explores the role of the BRICS as an international institution to the global order. It consists in three parts. Firstly, it analyses the creation and development of this institution, and its initiatives and cooperation. Next, the course discusses the concept of global order according to different analytical approaches from the discipline of International Relations such as realism, liberal-internationalism and constructivism. Particular attention will be given to the relation between order and legitimacy. The third part of the course analyses the role of the BRICS in light of the analytical approaches discussed in a number of issue areas of global governance such as finance, environment, and human rights. close
