This research colloquium is addressed to doctoral students and advanced Master's students in the fields of Literary Studies and Cultural Studies whose research projects (doctoral dissertations, MA theses) are related to 16th and 17th-century history, literature, and/or culture. Our discussions will focus on the general methodological questions and problems we encounter when working with early modern sources. We will assess various approaches to accessing, reading and analyzing early modern texts, including cultural anthropology, narratology, discourse analysis, etc. Students will be expected to show a high degree of initiative, to participate actively in the discussions and to be prepared to present parts of their own work to the colloquium.
