SoSe 15: History of English II: The History of English from a Sociolinguistic Perspective
Susanne Chrambach
Comments
In this seminar, we will explore the changing face of English throughout the course of history. We will see that, at every stage in its development, English presents itself not as a fixed language, but as varied and constantly evolving. Our focus will be on the history of English from a sociolinguistic perspective. This approach includes topics such as language contact and language change, technical advances and standardisation, and social class and language change. You will be asked to give a presentation and write a term paper. The course will be taught in English (level C1). close
