SoSe 15: HS-Literary and Cultural Theories: The Carnivalization of Genres
Andreas Mahler
Comments
According to the Russian literary theorist Mikhail Bakhtin "the problem of carnivalized literature is one of the very important problems in historical poetics, and in particular in the poetics of genre". The seminar, which will be divided into a plenary session (Tues. 18.00-19.30) and an additional hour for group discussions (Tues. 19.30-20.15; see section IV), will follow Bakhtin's observation and explore the basic principles and techniques of 'carnivalesque' text-making with regard to the idea of a poetics of genre as 'thematic carnivalization', 'structural carnivalization', and 'textual carnivalization'. Participants are invited to read into genre poetics as well as into the basic notions of Bakhtinian thought. close
