        This course will give an introduction to the relationship between visual culture and developing interpretations of Islam from its seventh century origins to the thirteenth century Mongol invasions. Students will be introduced to basic concepts in Islam, to theories on their physical expression in the early eras of Islamic culture, and the historiography of works that have become standard elements in the canon of Islamic art history.        close
