SoSe 15: Provincializing the West and Global Circulation of Knowledge? Postcolonial Approaches in the History of Knowledge

In the first part of the seminar we try to get a general idea of the crucial theoretical discussions within the field of history of knowledge after the postcolonial turn. In the second part we use material objects as starting point to discuss methodological approaches and the question of how to analyze the production of colonial knowledge. In this part we discuss both primary sources and empirical case studies. In the third part of the seminar we move back to theoretical texts and ask how to write a global history of knowledge in both an empirical and theoretical manner. close
