SoSe 16: GK-Surveying English Literatures I
Sabine Schülting
Kommentar
What we call ‘English literature’ is a broad field of study, which encompasses texts from Anglophone countries around the world. It is continuously evolving, as new novels, poems, plays as well as formerly unknown authors of the past are added to the ‘canon’. The lecture series seeks to provide students with the historical context for more specific courses on selected genres or topics in the literature modules of the BA programme. It will offer an overview of the main periods of English literature from the Medieval and the early modern ages, via the ‘long eighteenth century’, Romanticism, Victorianism, through to Modernism, Postcolonial and Postmodernism. The course will be team-taught.
Texts: Handouts and/or scripts will be provided by the respective lecturers and will be posted on Blackboard. Suggested introductory reading: Paul Poplawski (ed.), English Literature in Context (Cambridge University Press 2007).
Language: The course will be taught in English (level C1). Schließen
