SoSe 16: HS-Postcolonial Literatures: Unsettling Australia
Stephan Laqué
Kommentar
Australia: the land of Skippy, skin cancer, Uluru, the 2000 Sidney Olympics and any amount of open space that has attracted colonisers, settlers, immigrants and tourists since its discovery. This predominantly white society is today becoming increasingly aware of the injustice and repression which the indigenous population have suffered over the last centuries. In this seminar we will be looking at different perspectives on the problem of settling in literary and filmic approaches. We will focus on such issues as origin, belonging, whiteness, racism, and transnationalism. Before the start of the semester, please purchase the following texts and make sure you have read David Malouf’s Remembering Babylon.
