SoSe 16: Lebensmittelproduktion, Transport und Handel im römischen und spätantiken Mittelmeerraum

Im Rahmen des Seminars werden die archäologischen Befunde zur Lebensmittelproduktion, insb. Wein-, Ölproduktion und Fischverarbeitung, im Kontext der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung zwischen der republikanischen Zeit und der Spätantike, mit einem chronologischen Fokus zwischen dem I Jh. vor Chr. und dem VI Jh. nach Chr., analysiert. In den letzten Jahrzehnten haben die wirtschaftliche und produktionsbezogene Funktion der Villa, sowie deren sozio-ökonomische Implikationen, an Aufmerksamkeit gewonnen. Unter Berücksichtigung der langzeitlichen historisch-geprägten Debatte über die Natur der römischen Wirtschaft und deren Integration wird zum einen die Aussagekraft des archäologischen Befundes zu Villen und Gehöfte - aus stratigraphischen Ausgrabungen und Surveys in unterschiedlichen Regionen des Mittelmeerraumes – diskutiert. Zum anderen werden die Befunde zur Lebensmittelüberschussproduktion in Verbindung mit dem überregionalen Transport und Handel zur Versorgung Roms und Konstantinopel gesetzt. Frachtschiffe und ihre Ladung zusammen mit Amphoren aus Siedlungskontexte stellen unsere Hauptquellen zu Transport und Handel bzw. zur Komplexität des römischen Wirtschaftssystems in Bezug auf regionale Variation in Märkte und Distribution, dar.
