Kommentar
The object of this seminar is to critically examine the ways in which gender history and women's history have been studied as for the Ottoman Empire, the early Turkish Republic and the Arab World. The seminar will focus both on global interpretations, from the beginning of the modern Era to the Ottoman Empire and from colonial times to present days, and on locally rooted studies reflecting each time a specific methodological positioning.
Another dimension will also be central: that of the study of the role of women in history and society as seen in the Arabic/Ottoman/Turkish traditions of history writing. The module is thus composed of 2 hours of seminar and 2 hours of exercise, mostly in Arabic and Turkish. Schließen
