SoSe 16: Approaches to Structural Racism (reading group)
Jasper Verlinden Lily Kelting
Comments
Debates around race and racism have become increasingly present in the public sphere. Mostly in the United States where multiple protest movements have emerged in recent years to draw attention to the precarity of the lives of people of color and the acute threat to bodily harm that many experience. The Approaches to Structural Racism Reading Group aims to provide a non-hierarchical space in which these topics can be discussed in a safe and supportive environment. We meet every two weeks to discuss a text that we have previously agreed upon. This semester we plan to read selections from black feminism, queer of color critique, Asian American studies, Native American studies, and Afro-pessimism, among other things. All participants are welcome to suggest other reading materials as well. close
