Comments
The development of information and communication science changes social life and interaction between people. At the same time social changes trigger the emergence and the demand of new technological solutions. In this lecture qualitative analytical and survey methods are presented that enable students of informatics to gain insight into the social realities of information and communication technologies.
Besides, the procedure of social studies will be presented with the following phases: Research question, choice of method(s), design of the study, carrying out of the study, evaluation and interpretation, report/presentation.
Based on specific examples various methods (guideline interviews, expert interviews etc.) will be addressed and tested. Students will learn to develop research questions and trained in the collection and analysis of data. Moreover another focus is on the preparation and presentation of empirical results.
Within the exercises the usage of software for data analysis will be explained on the example of a little empirical study that will be conceptualized and carried out in a project-like manner. The research question should be based on current challenges and questions students identify within their discipline.
