SoSe 16: The Sociology of Emotions: Theory and Practice
Anne Nassauer
Comments
Which function do emotions have in our lives? What different types of emotions exist? How can we read other people’s emotions and what does that mean for interacting with them? This BA seminar will provide an introduction to the sociology of emotions by focusing on three aspects: First, we will discuss basic theoretical texts and the role of emotions in social life. Second, we will review applied research on the sociology of emotions in various fields. Third, all students will conduct numerous analyses of emotions - in class and as individual assignments. Together we will inter alia examine how to code the seven basic human emotions in the human face, detect micro-expressions that may reveal a lie, and analyze videos from armed store robberies to interrogations with murderers and daily interaction routines. close
