The course will concentrate on the history of Central and West Asia, what was classically called “the Lands of the Eastern Caliphate” from late antiquity to the collapse of the Seljuks (roughly AD 1150). It is intended to provide both a basic political history framework, as well as more in depth topical and thematic subjects dealing with formation of the Islamic practices (in a historical setting) and emergence of cultural elements such as languages. close
