SoSe 17: East Asian Thought
Rein Raud
Comments
The course presents a concise overview of the religious, philosophical and ideological thought of India, China, Tibet, Korea, Southeast Asia (Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam) and Japan from ancient times till the present day. The connections between the worldviews of these countries are manyfold and the influences of India and China have produced different, but typologically similar constellations throughout the region. In modern times, the influence of the West has been also received differently in these countries, and different strategies have been adopted to develop workable responses to the changes in the respective societies and the global historical context. close
