SoSe 17: American Foreign Policy and Contemporary Global Security Challenges
Lora Anne Viola
Comments
This course studies US foreign policy with respect to a set of contemporary global security challenges. We begin by critically interrogating the meaning of “security” and considering available policy options for constructing security. We then study US foreign policy with respect to what are often considered its main security challenges today, such as: its alliance with Europe and NATO; geopolitical rivalry with Russia, China, and Iran; and the issue of terrorism. Finally, we will consider how the role of the US on the global stage is likely to develop over the coming decades. The course will include a simulation exercise. close
