Thomas Dikant
Comments
In this seminar, we will study the evolution of the genre of detective fiction, from its beginning in “true crime” fiction and sensational literature through the forgotten women writers of crime fiction in the nineteenth century, to the American invention of hard-boiled crime fiction and African-American detective fiction. We will study novels and short stories by authors including Edgar Allan Poe, Louisa May Alcott, Dashiell Hammett, Patricia Highsmith, and Chester Himes. We will also discuss films such as The Big Sleep and Shaft. close
