SoSe 17: The Canadian Political System
Christian Lammert
Comments
Canada is one of the most unique countries in the world. Often overshadowed by its southern neighbour, Canada is a country that blends elements of socialism with market liberalism, freedom with deference, and leading with following. Canada’s political system has its roots in the United Kingdom, but it has come to be much more – an experiment of ethnic conflict management, Aboriginal self-rule, and governance of a diverse, multicultural people within a vast land mass. Canada is also a country that has faced, and continues to face, numerous challenges to its confederation. This course will familiarize students with the basic concepts, institutions, processes, issues, political cleavages and challenges in Canadian governance and politics. close
