Nadja Ben Khelifa
Comments
Despite all optimistic claims to the contrary the notion of a world that is constituted of nations proofs to be persistent.
The idea of nation is a cultural phenomenon that has been consolidated and examined from the perspectives of postcolonial studies, history, philosophy and politics. This seminar will introduce you to discourses on nation. Therefore, we will look at different structures such as class, race and gender that are inherent in and shape the respective discourses on nation and nationalism. While predominantly focussing on the critical texts themselves, we will occasionally include literary texts, films, and other cultural artefacts as case studies.
