SoSe 18: V-Lit. Stud.: Periods-Genres-Concepts I: History on the Early Modern Stage
Andreas Mahler
Kommentar
The early modern English stage begins to discover ‘history’ as a subject and main topic for the entertainment of an increasingly urban audience. The lecture, which can be seen as an accompaniment to the reading seminar on Richard II, will focus mainly on Shakespeare’s histories in order to discuss the fascination, hopes, and dangers, involved in this new staging of political and historical issues in the (at the time sub-)literary genre of drama.
