SoSe 18: Introduction to Psychological Anthropology

Kommentar

This course introduces students to the histories, theories and methods of Psychological Anthropology. It attends to anthropological concepts of person, culture, self and subjectivity, emotions and affects, socialization and education and elaborates on transdisciplinary research collaborations both historical and contemporary. In addition, the course scrutinizes the possibilities and limits of neuroanthropology, which deals with the social and cultural modeling of the brain. We will critically examine concepts of the psyche, psychiatry and psychology, and discuss the researchers’ affects and emotions as means of ethnographic knowledge construction.
