SoSe 18: Introduction to Comparative Environmental Politics
Kirsten Jörgensen-Ullmann
Kommentar
Journals titled ‘Environmental Policy and Governance’, or ‘Climate Policy’, for example, indicate the existence of a field of political science specializing on environmental problems: Comparative Environmental Politics. In this introductory class, we will discuss what Comparative Environmental Politics is and identify topics and units of research such as for example climate politics. Comparative Politics, among other political science sub-disciplines, contributes to great extent to the research of environmental collective action problems and governance. How do scholars in the field apply theories and methods from the long-established Comparative Politics, if at all? What is the comparison about? After some introductory sessions, we will delve into various types of literature. What do we know about the role the state, non-state actors, the international context, political systems, and new forms of governance play in environmental and climate protection from comparative research?
