SoSe 18: Provincializing Westphalia: Global IR & Postcolonial Thought
Tobias Berger
Comments
This is an advanced reading course in contemporary International Relations Theory. It focuses on recent critiques that the discipline of International Relations “… does not reflect the voices, experiences, knowledge claims, and contributions of the vast majority of the societies and states in the world, and often marginalizes those outside the core countries of the West” (Acharya, 2014). Taking Acharya’s argument as a starting point, this course interrogates the relationship between IR as an academic field of knowledge and the experiences and interests of actors in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. It does so by combining the analysis of recent developments in IR theory with discussions of contemporary trends in Postcolonial Thought and Global History. close
