SoSe 18: Development of the American Economy - Case Studies

This course will cover the economic history of the United States, from colonial times to the present, with greatest emphasis on the period between 1790 and 1950. Topics to be covered will include the colonial economy, the economics of the American Revolution, the transportation revolution, the industrial revolution, the role of agriculture, the economics of the pre and post-Civil War American South, the rise of big business, the ‘20s and the Great Depression, and WWII and the Golden Age. The course will be conducted in English, and classes will consist of lectures, class discussions, and student presentations. The course consists of two parts, which have to be taken together, management will be organized through Blackboard. Please register early, as there are only limited places available. Once you have been accepted to the Hauptseminar on Thursdays you will be added to this class by the lecturer. Students absolutely need to attend the first session. close
