SoSe 18: MÜ-Studying the Present Moment: Theorizing the Border
Sabine Schülting
Comments
This course will be concerned with ‘borders’ – from geographical and national frontiers to conceptual and metaphorical boundaries. We will discuss a range of theoretical approaches to borders, in order to explore their spatial, performative, political, linguistic and aesthetic aspects. Particular emphasis will be placed on (narratives about) border crossings as well as on the dynamic constructions and deconstructions of border zones or borderlands.
Students should combine this course with 17405 (Narratives of Exile and Migration).
Texts: All texts will be made available on Blackboard.
Assessment: Students are expected to attend regularly and participate actively in all classroom activities.
